Welcome to #RitualInBloom. A space where our community shares wellness rituals that help us connect with our bodies—because many of us here at Superbloom can’t “self-care” away our chronic conditions.

We chatted with Siobhan Olivia about the simple pleasures in life like stretching, yoga, and mini moments of self-love. Read on for how she incorporates these into her daily life, while also crushing her fashion illustration side-hustle!

Where do you live and how do you describe yourself to others—not just what you are doing but who you are working on “being”?

I live downtown Toronto with my partner – we have lived in Liberty Village for almost a year now and it’s lovely. I would describe myself to others as a positive energy, there is not a better feeling in the world then being able to make people feel comfortable and positive around you! I am constantly working on bringing more positivity to my everyday and, hopefully, everyone I interact with, too.

How do you connect to your body?

One of my favourite ways is to stretch! It’s pretty underrated if you ask me. Something with such a minimal impact and small amount of effort can make your body feel incredible and completely refreshed. For the past year I’ve taken a real interest in learning stretches that can benefit me and the way I feel everyday. I am in the process of learning the splits and it has been honestly so rewarding trying to reach this goal, but also giving my body the attention it needs!

What’s your favorite mode of expression? We saw you’ve really focused on your art and sharing this creative side of you since quarantine began and it’s really taking off!

Absolutely! Art has been a huge outlet for me, I have always been passionate about drawing and fashion illustration especially. I went to a fashion school and by far my favourite class was illustration! I finally decided with all the extra time I had staying at home, to put some more time towards it. Once I started posting, people were interested in purchasing, so now here we are. My site is live and I *just* made my 50th sale and am feeling wonderful about it.

What are your wellness rituals?

The simple pleasures really! Using my favourite oils in a diffuser, lighting candles, having a bubble bath, putting on a face mask. I really look forward to these small things and by adding them into my routine when I can – it gives me something to look forward too.

If you had to choose one wellness ritual that has changed your life, what would it be?

Taking a social media break is a big one for me! It is my everyday for my full time job, and where I find a lot of my inspiration for art so turning off is hard. Very hard. I like to take times on the weekends where I don’t have my phone with me or just turn it off completely. You instantly feel like you’re missing out on something but usually the reality is, it can wait! It really is a true mental sooth to disconnect.

You clearly have an artistic eye when it comes to creating content. What are you inspired by?

So many things! I am inspired by so many other artists, high fashion designers (Chanel, Gucci, Prada) are my favourites and just content I see on my Instagram explore page. My art is very imperfect and what I describe as quite messy! I love how I can see something and turn it into an illustration super quickly. I absolutely love other artist’s whose work is perfect and flawless, but it’s just not me!

What’s the wellness advice you would give your younger self?

Take time for yourself 🙂 We hear it a lot, and see it posted everywhere but to actually take that time is something everyone should do, and I wish I did more of in my past. Building it into a routine and carving out that self care time no matter what it is, or how long it is really can make a difference in your day to day mental health which I have only just started appreciating recently.
